Festivals in Brazil
The world's biggest party, and the harvest festival that comes right after
Rio’s Carnival is built around the Sambadrome parades, where samba schools compete with elaborate floats and costumes refined over months of preparation, but the bulk of the celebration happens in the streets — blocos (informal street parties) draw millions of people across the city in the days surrounding the official parades. Festa Junina, held mostly in June, has a completely different character: originally tied to European Catholic saints’ feast days and adapted with strong rural and indigenous influences, it’s celebrated with quadrilha square dances, bonfires, and corn-based foods, especially across Brazil’s Northeast.
Together the two festivals bookend Brazil’s first half of the year — one urban and global in reach, the other rural and specifically Brazilian — and Festivals.one covers both with their real governing dates rather than a single guessed date repeated from a previous year.
