About Festivals.one

Festivals.one is a reference guide to festivals around the world — built to answer a simple question well: when does this festival actually happen, and why?

How we verify dates

Most festival dates online are copied from a previous year and quietly changed by one year, which breaks the moment a festival follows a lunar calendar, a moveable feast, or any rule more complex than "always July 4th." Before publishing a date on this site, we identify the actual rule governing it — a lunar tithi, a fixed relationship to Easter, a day-of-the-week anchor like a bank holiday, or a genuinely fixed civic date — and cross-check the resulting date against multiple independent sources.

Every festival page states that rule explicitly, in plain language, along with a short note on how the current date was checked. Where a festival's date genuinely varies by region — Obon in Japan is the clearest example, observed a full month apart in Tokyo versus most of the rest of the country — we say so rather than picking one region's date and presenting it as universal.

What we cover

Festivals.one currently covers seven country hubs: India, the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, Thailand, Spain, and Brazil, each with a small number of flagship festivals covered in depth. We're building outward from here — deeper coverage within each country, then additional countries — rather than publishing thin pages across many countries at once.

What we don't do

We don't publish estimated or guessed dates, we don't reuse a template's text across festival pages, and we don't use structured data or ratings we haven't earned. If a date is genuinely uncertain or announced late by an organizing body — as with some Sambadrome parade schedules — we say that directly instead of presenting a guess as fact.

Corrections

Festival dates, especially lunar and regional ones, are the kind of detail that benefits from more eyes. If you notice something that's changed, or a detail specific to your city or community that we've missed, we want to hear about it and will review and correct promptly.
